File #000375 from GENERAL PUBLIC INFO-CATION from The Library of The Public Affairs Agency

The Silikonspiegel (abbrv. SPG; term popularised by Dr. Louis Schattner), colloquially known as The Fog has become apparent to humanity around the year 465 c.a.
The fog has been a subject of wide discussion for around a century now not just because it conceals what lies beyond but because of its unique ability to corrode electronic devices.
Under numerous atomic spectrometric trials, SPG showed traces of an unidentified element. This element (further referred to as 'the element') has been hypothesised to be the culprit of the deterioration of electronic devices using integrated circuit chips.
Various scientists have theorised that the element has an affinity to silicium (silicon) though some argue that the element is a mere catalyst that renders silicium useless.
A widely regarded hypothesis stands that the element has a weaker affinity to carbon yet has no effect on the biological carbon.
The origin of the fog has been subject to various speculations. Yet it is still not established. Some ecologists argue that nature has one united consciousness and the fog is its response to the growing abyss between mankind and nature. Though widely believed among the general public, the fog is not an activity of any anti-tech terrorist organisation.
The fog is dangerous. SPG Patrol squads have reported sightings of unspecified entities that have not yet been scientifically recognised by The Sentient life & Biology Agency.
The Cosmopolitan Movement Agency under the authority of Major Global Coalition (abbrv. M.G.C.) strictly prohibits movement of groups less than 30 registered members for distances exceeding 10 kilometres. Individuals who do not obey and/or are not registered by the M.G.C. will be executed on sight by the SPG patrol squads.
Above is a photograph widely known as 'The Last Photograph', a picture of a fog-laden basketball court circa 470 c.a. This picture interweaves the philosophy about the relation between the nature of fog and the long-forgotten spirit of human activity. Note that the colour in the picture has been depleted. Whether it was an artistic decision by the author (unknown) or an effect of the fog on carbon ash that was widely in use during the time this picture was produced on paper is not known.
